ABOUT
Utar Artun (Utar Dündarartun) was born in Ankara, Turkey on 6 April 1987. He started his primary education in a private school in 1993 until 1998. Then he became successful in the entrance exam of Hacettepe University State Conservatory in 1998. He began his music education in the Classical Percussion Department of Hacettepe University, Ankara State Conservatory in 1998. Utar Artun took first lessons from Hasim Yedican and afterwards he became Tarkan Yedican's pupil at the same department. He attended to Prof. lIhan Baran's Jazz and Contemporary Music and Romantic Music courses in 2003. In 2006, he arranged musical pieces for the theater play The 7 Women. Artun also arranged many movie soundtracks and oldies for Symphony Orchestra. During his education, he participated in some workshops about classical percussion, jazz/blues and Latin music in Hacettepe Conservatory. At the same time, he performed as the drummer of Hacettepe Jazz Quintet. Also, he is the piano player, arranger and composer of Betone Quartet. (E.Bass; Cem Tuncer, Drums; Akin Bağcioğlu and Flute/EWI; Sarpay Özçağatay) Betone Quartet members are now recording their own album. In 2008, Artun graduated from Percussion Department of Hacettepe Conservatory with 2nd Degree of School Placement Award. (Turkey) After graduation, he participated in The European Scholarship Tours of Berklee College of Music in Paris and was accepted as a scholarship student. Now he is the student of Berklee College of Music in Film Scoring & Jazz Composition , Dual Major. He was awarded for highly Honorable Mention from Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra Composition Competition. In 2010 January, one of his compositions was elected for Jazz Revaluation CD.Note: His Original Full Name is Utar Dundarartun. But he prefers to use Utar Artun.About My Berklee Perception, Berklee College of Music focuses on important values and gives many opportunities to its students. Berklee alumni have glorious achievements in the contemporary music history. These were considerable references for my decision, preferring Berklee Colege of Music. I was really impressed and Berklee inspired me to focus on my music. I have many aims in that way, I shall fulfill all of them as soon as possible during my education. After my graduation, I'd like to be an important and valuable composer, arranger, music producer and performer as a jazz pianist all over the world and I wish to share my knowledge and inventions with people in the future. To be a part of History of Music and Humanity is my realistic aim for the future.
